“Which Is and Isn’t Mine”

DESCRIPTION:

20 minute, single-take video in which the artist wraps her hair, paints the portrait of a black woman  over top of her own face with acrylic paint, covers that portrait with another portrait of a white woman, and then removes the paint by peeling it off in skin-like shreds of acrylic. The video is then projected over a 27.5″ x 47.5″ page featuring the artist’s explanation for the project in rambling and partially obscured text.
